In the ever-growing list of places to try, I've also been meaning to try out Noodle Bar.

@Good_Will : the unfortunate aspect here is that for Chinese, dim sum is essentially Cantonese (southern) in origin, and rules out something else equally tasty/spicy like Szechuan, for example. On the other hand, if I can see that a "Chinese" restaurant is Cantonese-style, I will ask if (a) they can make a wok-fried beef rice noodle, to which they should know to ask if I would like the noodle-dish "wet" or "dry", or (b) if they know how to make "hot pots", or namely, kind of "casseroles" in clay or iron pots. Or perhaps, I'm mentioning this because I've just returned from Auckland ...fotoeinshttp://flic.kr/zustand/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8625060676459027108.post-17818366437038081032010-10-27T20:53:52.542-07:002010-10-27T20:53:52.542-07:00Great review! You should try the Pomelo salad next time, and the Phad Thai Kai.

I'm not a fussy eater, but I judge restaurants on my first visit by ordering a particular dish by cuisine. Immediate pass/fail ensues.

In no particular order:

Thai: Phad Tai Kai and Tom Yam Koong (The spelling may vary)

Italian: Lasagne

Spanish: Paella

Chinese: Dim Sum

French: Duck a l'Orange

Czech: Svickova

German: Just don't bother.

South American: Fillet steak, cooked rare.

England: Full English Breakfast.

I know I have left out loads of countries, but hopefully other people will chip in.

Cheers, WillGood_Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01252001112610850186noreply@blogger.com
